The Role
Makeba Money is a fintech platform purpose-built for the Cape Verdean diaspora, enabling fast, low-cost money transfers from the United States to Cape Verde, with cash withdrawal through a local agent network. We are launching Phase 1 now, focused on the US Cape Verdean diaspora, the core transfer product, and the Boston market as the primary launchpad.
This is a full-ownership role. You will build Makeba Money's presence from zero: strategy, content, community, and growth. You'll work closely with two in-house graphic designers who handle visual production, but creative direction, copy, publishing, and community management are entirely yours.
What You'll Do
Own and execute Makeba's social presence across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube Shorts, and WhatsApp.
- Platform strategy and channel prioritisation
- Content creation and creative direction
- Copywriting and publishing
- Community management and moderation
- Growth and influencer partnerships
- Monthly reporting and strategic insights

Required Skills
- Deep knowledge of the Cape Verdean diaspora in the United States
- Experience managing social media for a brand or community
- Strong written English and culturally resonant copywriting
- Ability to own strategy and execution independently
- Hands-on use of AI tools in content workflows
Nice to Have
- Fluency in Kriolu and/or Portuguese
- Experience in fintech, mobile money, or financial inclusion
- Existing network of Cape Verdean influencers in the US
What This Role Is NOT
This is not a junior posting-only social media role. It is a strategic growth function with real ownership.
